For the beat writer...Paul Adams.

via: TRACI L. WEISENBACH, the Huron Daily Tribune. The Ubly school board meeting Monday, Nov 8, 2010.allowed...

Daniel Delamarter, athletic director, to vote in favor of accepting Memphis Schools into the league at the next Athletic League meeting in December.

What the &%#2 is going on, Paul?

You said that the proposed GTC/NCTL football merger was rejected. I could not believe that. If this proposal had been in place this year...NH would have made the play-offs if they played Mayville instead of Mio. Kingston could have been 4-4 and played Au Gres in Week9.

Now Ubly is willing to accept Memphis as the GTEast 7th member.

Its a long drive from Memphis to Ubly.

BTW: Great show Eddie and Paul. You make the days between games a heck of a lot of fun!

CC, Paul is well aware of this as am I.....we've known about this for a while but have been asked not to say much. The move won't be official until all the school boards in the GTC vote on this proposal so it's not a done deal just yet.
Not sure what Eddie was aware of, if any of it.

I'm sure details will come out about what happened and why they decided to go this route but for right now I'm not gonna talk about what I know and neither will Paul. Sorry for the tease.....but I was given info in confidence and won't break that trust.
Add to the fact we are right in the middle of a playoff run and attention is focused on that right now.

Same here - was asked to keep info in trust until finalized. This situation has been so back and forth and it is an unfortunate situation and also could change in a whiff!

Thanks for commenting guys.

I've been reading too many mystery novels lately. How much do you tip these informed/anonymous sources?

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge... ;-)

IMHO, the NCTL is playing with fire.

North Huron, Peck, Kingston, Deckerville and Memphis could ask for GTC membership 'en masse'. Move Mayville to the mix and Bad Axe to the GTEast. Makes for three pretty good 6 team divisions in all sports with no more and probably less travel for all involved.

CC

you just need to trust everyone on this one. This will work better in the long run.

Yep, Anonymous...whoever you are...you are correct.

The eventual make-up of Upper Thumb high school sports should not penalize the really small schools...Port Hope,Caseville, Akron-Fairgrove and Owen-Gage.

They have a tough road to hoe and need the wiser, more benevolent area ruling committee to see that they get a fair shack at playing teams inside of a 80 mile area.

They maybe overmatched most of the time, but damn it! Give them a chance. Those rare victories are worth a lot in the future beyond high school.

cluck cluck, weren't you the one who chastised the Ubly AD for scheduling North Huron just a few short weeks ago? Are you going to be excited when Ubly is playing 0-7Peck one year? Or when when Kingston is getting racked by Vassar? I think the NCTL smaller schools need to stay out the GTC for those reasons. It won't make for fun football.

Yep, I chastised Ubly for scheduling HN...and I still do. Ubly already had BA and Mayville on their schedule. A pair of underachievers. Basically, NH replaced Vassar this year. A 6-3 Class B team replaced by a 4-5 Class D school. Go figure.

If the proposed GTC/NCTL merger had/is accepted, Ubly losses Mayville and adds Cass City for a crossover.

Steve, did you see the proposed schedule? If it had been used this year...NH would have played Mayville, not Mio. Kingston would have played BCAS and USA...losses most likely, but with wins vs BR Crossroads, Peck, Memphis and Mayville...they could have been 4-4 entering a Week9 game with Au Gres, a school that had an open date.

Your the person selling the 11-man NCTL teams short, not me.

clucky, the cross over game switches every two years. They didn't effectivly swap NH for Vassar. Vassar will be at least 8 years away as a crossover. Bad Axe is or shall I say, was a great rivalry game between neighboring school districts. Much like Ubly/HB has been one sided of late, so is this match-up. But it will remain on the schedule.

selling those schools short? maybe, I don't want to see watered down GTC football for the sake of coming to the rescue of a conference in flux.
don't give a rip about the proposed schedule either, Cass City will be on the schedule in 2012 anyway.

the NCTL needs the GTC worse than the GTC needs the NCTL and there is no real reason the GTC should rescue them.
Lets hope the schools boards of the GTC accept Memphis. Right now that appears to be a better fit.
