-Ravenna led at the end of 1st Quarter 6-0.
-Merrill fired back 17pts in the 2nd Quarter to take the lead at the end of first half, 17-6.
-Merrill scores 6 more; but Ravenna finally gets a td after a drought - Merrill leads 23-12.

Yeah, on the next to last play, if the Merrill defender would have intercepted the pass (he could have) instead of batting away the ball (he thought the clock had run out), Merrill wins the game. Also, with a homer clock, if they would have let another half second run off the clock before stopping the clock, Merrill wins. What a heart break for Merrill, after losing to this same team last year.

My opinion, Ubly beats Ravenna. Ravenna is not the precision team that Ubly is. Ravenna has a couple of strong runners, but Ubly's defense will cancel that part of the game. Ravenna's QB had a couple of nice, long, throws, but for the most part he was inaccurate on most simple passes. Merrill dodged a bullet in the first quarter because their QB was way off on his throws and Merrill committed a ton of penalties in the first quarter. But they survived to hold Ravenna to 6 pts and then went on to dominate somewhat. But Ravenna regrouped in the second half, and a fumble by Merrill's QB on their own 5 yard line gave Ravenna an easy TD to get back in the game. A thrilling ending to the game, but a heartbreak for Merrill.

Great finish! Awesome win for Ravenna, but you gotta feel for the kids from Merrill. I've never seen a game end like that.

you hit it on the head Peter.
A very ragged start to the ballgame for both teams and when Merrill was up 23-6 we were considering an early exit from the game. Luckly we decided to stay.

Couple things that stood out to me, the line play was tremendous on both offense and defense. They can get to the quarterback quick and they can offer up all kinds of protection for their own QB.
Also after they got things together, Ravenna seemed to get stronger as the game went along.
Defensively they will give Ubly some trouble.

Unless your up on them by a bundle, they don't quit and it's not over till the last second....err 1/2 second is gone.

Overall Ubly can win this game. Protect the ball and limit mistakes, control the tempo and get off to a good start....no different than any other game.

It's how you finish that matters! That was proven in this game.

Its Great to have the coverage of the games with thumb tail gaters over the last 2 or 3 years but it is called THUMB tailgaters and UBLY is more of the Thumb than Cros-lex Marine city Lamphere Almont And I can go on but I think I made my point UBLY is the THUMB!!! Maybe Eddie should change the name to Mid East Tailgaters Or is Eddie still scared to do an Ubly game.LOL I Know its about ratings and advertising but come on when was the last time somebody from Croswell,or Lamphere spent a dime in Bad axe or for that point Deckerville

I guess what you consider "Thumb" is a little geographically off. Cros-Lex is every bit the Thumb team that Ubly is. For the Cros-Lex/Marine City game - had the best listener count we have had for any game so far this year.

It's not to say that we would ever stop covering the upper thumb schools that we have grown to appreciate. We have added broadcast teams to cover additional schools from the BWAC, and further south into more populated areas. We will always give the schools we started with their due - but in order for us to survive and expand in tough times - we have to go to more populated areas. We are sports junkies. We have to continue to grow to support our habit!

Your other option is go go out, get some equipment, technical skillz, sports knowledge (we are still looking for the sports knowledge ourselves) - and start broadcasting! :)

Adam,

when I was a tiny kid, once you left Detroit and got to Romeo you were in the Thumb.

Dick Enberg, the voice of ABC Sports in the 70s/80s, was proud to state he was from the Thumb of Michigan...Armada.

As far as I'm concerned the Thumb takes in not only Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola counties, but St.Clair and Lapeer...plus any area east of Bay City, Saginaw and Flint/Burton. Also the norther tier of townships of Macomb and Oakland counties.

Urban sprawl be damned!
