Chiuk Czlek's TSA Top 10

1: Millington 7-1: I’m giving everybody a muggins. Cards got beat by a not so stellar Montrose 19-14 in Week 4, have been very good since.

2: Ubly 8-0: Young team looking more and more like the Bearcats of ‘08/’09. Get stronger every week.

3: Cros-Lex: 6-2: Pair of close losses to two teams…Divine Child and Almont…who would be leading this poll if eligible.

4: BCAS 6-2: Playing like a serious Div8 contender…Opps…they aren’t eligible for the poll!

4: Reese 7-1: Muggins on BCAS. Rockets have been less than impressive since defeating Vassar in Week 4. Like Ubly’s narrow win vs. Sandusky or Millington’s loss to Montrose…the loss to BCAS may just light the fuse under the Rocket‘s butt.

5: Vassar 6-2: Play Frankenmuth (4-4) to close the regular season. Have played very well…4-0...since loss to the Rockets in Week 4.

6: Sandusky 6-2: Redskins haven’t been impressive all year, however they came close to winning against Cass City and Ubly…could be 8-0. Maybe its better to be 6-2 now than an overrated 8-0. They’re getting the little things done to win.

7: Caro 4-4: Up and down all year. Lack of numbers on the sideline hurts.

8: I give up! Cass City, USA, Brown City, Marlette, Harbor Beach, North Branch and Deckerville are all too close competitively to rank and be objective. If I choose the flavor of the week, it would be Brown City. However, like the other teams in this group, Green Devils have not sustained a winning trend. These 7 football teams have been up and down all year…with exception of Deckerville who have slipped way down the past two weeks.

OK, you scoffers! Yeah, I talked the Bearcats up over the weekend as the best in the area. However, I never rated them as #1...or even better than #3 all year. I am realistic after all. Its tough at the top. Play-offs will tell.

Hey Eddie,

I wrote this Top 10 Sunday night. I just noted it matched your ballot right down the line. Scary!

Chiuk - if you are thinking like Eddie, you might want to get checked out.

I think that you are wrong about Sandusky not being impressive. They have won big (real big) when they have been supposed to, and have rattled off 5 wins for a young Redskin team. This could be the hometown Kool-Aid* talking, but I think you will see them go 2-3 rounds deep into the playoffs.

Ubly very well could go to the Semi Finals - where it looks like they will meet up with either Hudson, or a vastly improved Peterberg-Sommerfield team. Neither will be easy to get by. The bearcats can do it, but they are going to have their best game of the season unless those two slip up before they get there.

It is hard to tell what the larger schools will do (cros-lex, millington, almont, ect). We'll find out soon enough!

Adam, Sandusky hasn't won a big game by more than a couple of TDs. But, as I am saying, they do the little things to get the win. HB, BC, USA, Marlette. No cakewalk in any of those victories. I'm impressed.

Lets say they had beaten CC and Ubly and entered the play-offs at 9-0. I wouldn't give them a chance. Being 7-2 and having learned the "agony of defeat" makes them a better team on the big stage, IMO.

Two/Three deep in the play-offs?

Love to see it but Snooze2You has them projected to play against and travel to Urban #@)(%%. Ecorse, Willow Run or Beecher.

Yikes!

Completely agree on Ubly. Hudson is better than last year and Summerfield is also. Not to overlook a possible match-up with Nouvel. Win or lose though, you better believe no one is taking Ubly lightly...even TCSF!

Adam,

This is a posting I placed at the Tribune blog. I'll repost it here.

Its a reply to an excellent post by 'EPBP'92' and I believe it gets to the real nitty-gritty.

"Putting in the time is exactly where its at!

Look at USA girls softball. They put in a huge amount of time to be the best. Perhaps an even better example is the Deckerville Girl’s BB team. They didn’t finish near the top of the GTE, didn’t have the overall talent to beat out Sandusky, Brown City or Harbor Beach (three teams that also put in the time) but they learned a lot about themselves and their abilities and made it to the Class D regional final in ’09 and the State Quarterfinals last winter.

Of coarse talent has a lot to do about how well a team finishes, but a good work ethic places the teams that practice quality values ahead of those who don’t.

It’s a fleeting thing, when talent, coaching and ethics all merge together. Its devilish perhaps, that pride of accomplishing something that will live in the soul of the warrior until they die.

My old neighbor and I talked a lot of high school football over the years and nothing made him stick out his chest more than the 1973 Arthur Hill football team he was a part of that went 9-0 and outscored their opponents 443-0. Paled my Bearcats of 1972 that went 9-0 and outscored the opposition 357-54.

One thing we did have in common was the time spent during the summer. No coaches, no supervision of any kind, but we put in the time whenever we could to practice the small things like snaps and passing coverage, weight lifting and endurance running.

The stellar teams make the effort…the whiners don’t."

Hey Chiuk,
When I said the Redskins could go 2-3 rounds deep in the playoffs, Snooze2you.com had them as a 2 seed in a MUCH easier bracket. I think that they will get by Ecorse (they have a long tradition of early exits), but it gets much tougher from there. So 2 rounds deep might be a safer bet. :)
