March Magic began
for the girls basketball districts on Monday, and there is a day off before things heat up and tip off again in the second round on Wednesday.
The regular season continues however for boys basketball. In a make up game that had implications, the Vassar Vulcans got another boost towards the Greater Thumb West title with a league victory edging Unionville-Sebewaing 42 - 41, with a free throw to win on Monday night. A tough NBA like schedule for Vassar continues Tuesday night in a non league match up at Mayville. The Wildcats have not won a game this season and unfortunately against a good team like Vassar, that may continue.
Another team that stays in the hunt in the "Wild West" of the Greater Thumb are the Bay City All Saint Cougars. They have a huge task at the Reese Rockets who would love to play the spoiler role in the GTW. Reese wants to avenge their earlier season loss to All Saints much like they did against Unionville-Sebewaing on Friday night evening the league series. Bay City All Saints simply cannot afford to lose, much like Vassar cannot also. It could either come down to a tie for the Greater Thumb West or one of these teams will walk away as teh lone champions. Thursday is the season ender with Bay City All Saints hosting Bad Axe, and Vassar taking on Reese, which will be heard live on Thumb Tailgater Sports starting at 7:30pm.
Over in the Greater Thumb East - here it is in simple terms. If the Harbor Beach Pirates defeat the Ubly Bearcasts tonight, they are the Greater Thumb East Champions.
Another team that needs to win in order stay in the NCTL South title hopes are the Peck Pirates who hosts the North Huron Warriors, who played last night with a victory over a resilient Dryden team 67-52.
The Croswell-Lexington Pioneers take on the Richmond Bluedevils who hope to keep a least share of the BWAC title by the end of the week. Cros-Lex would like to spoil that party!
