Sandusky girls basketball player Marissa Demott is moving on to play college basketball at Hillsdale College. Demott was the Thumb Sportswriters Association Co-Player of Year along with Defensive Player, and making an unprecedented four straight years on the 1st team. She was also the Associated Press Michigan's Class C Player Of The Year and made the AP Class C First Team.
During her senior season, DeMott averaged 22 points, six steals, five rebounds, three assists and nearly two blocks a game. DeMott, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, connected on all 36 of her free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter this season for the 21-2 Redskins, who were ranked No. 1 much of the season.
Marissa DeMott set a Michigan High School Athletic Association state record at the beginning of the season with 55 consecutive free throws, making her first 34 attempts after hitting 21 straight at the end of last season. That total ranks third nationally.
For her career, DeMott was 429-for-488 (87.9 percent) from the foul line.
In addition to her free-throw shooting, DeMott scored 1,682 points and hit 191 three-pointers in her career. Sandusky finished the season 21-2 overall after losing to rival Brown City in the district finals.
