Just finished listening to the Genesee/Brown City game, a 43-8 Wolf win.

Genesee has a veteran team and is much improved from last year…they actually play defense this year! Steve Cook is a fine player …saw him last year and IMO will be the best individual player the cats have/will face so far this year.

Ubly’s interior lines play will be tested next week and it won’t be a blowout nor easy.

My prediction… Ubly 35 Genesee 14 in a full 4qt…hard fought contest.

Go Cats!!!

Hey Paul, Geez-o-peets...don't take me so seriously...your full of crap...on somethings...but your a heck of a lot of fun listen to...and I love BS...I grew up on it! ;) ;)

CC, I hate making mistakes, I thought I remembered hearing that when I was at North Huron. Either I heard wrong, or had something mixed up. Live and learn I guess.

Anyway, I think you're right about next week. Ubly will be tested, but in the end, the Bearcats are too much for Genesee. You can't score if you don't have the ball, and that's what Ubly will do next week.

Brown City lost because Scott Banks can't coach. He benched his best athelete because he could not control him. The fact is he lost control of the team. Banks lost to Sandusky out of arrogance. That loss gutted the team spirit. Banks should have correcetd the obvious mismatch in his pass coverage against Genesee but like always stuck with his initial plan. Banks is stuck on himself and is not qualified to coach at this level. His team's talent got him to the playoffs, but to hear Bank's quotes it's all about him.

Anonymous said...

Paul, I think you are being a little tough on coach Banks. Perhaps there were mistakes made in the game vs. Genesee, but I think you could also make the point that Brown City's turnaround from a 2-7 team to a 7-2 team is largely because of his coaching.

Paul Peterson said...

I'm not being tough enough, the squd's talent got him there not him. Go back and read the on line qoutes of Banks they revolve around him. He lost the game against Sandusky because he refused to use the only resouce that was working, the back he benched in the playoff game. The man allowed his personal problems get in the way of coaching. He is paid, his job is to use his resources to win. He failed, miserably. The reason they had such a good record is reflected upon the talent he possessed not the coach. Before you judge you need to do some research.

If this is all true it will be interesting to see how long he will be coach. In the thumb area small communities things like this don't last long. Part of the reason Rowland didn't stick around as Ubly's head coach long was because Sweeney, who was the JV head coach at the time, was doing more coaching than he was......

i would like to know what game are you doing next week on your show

Anonymous said...

Just a guess but I am guessing they will be doing the Ubly - Genesse game as there are only 3 Greater Thumb teams left playing.... And the other 2 are pretty good trips but I may be wrong...

You are wrong! Thumb Tailgater Sports goes where we have to go. We don't care how far it is! If the playoff game from the Thumb Area is in Texas, we go to to Texas! (I Love My Longhorns...born in Corpus Christi, Texas!)
We will be covering the Reese @ St.Charles game! We will get to Ubly soon, maybe next week (as everyone in the media, will be by then) or by the semi-finals. The goal for us is to cover the team from the Thumb Area, that will not be covered by the "big boys" of the audio media.

I think your guys theory on covering games is a bad one... I doubt many people from Reese or St Charles even pay attention to this site.... An opinion for next year would be to do a poll on what game people think you should cover. My guess is that the majority of the people tuning in online are those that arent in the area anymore. But hey go ahead and cover Reese and St Charles - i just think its a waste of resources because I doubt any people you have supporting the broadcasts are from those areas..... Just my 2 cents though.

Anonymous said...

Hey, I hate to break the bad news but alot of people tuning in online are from the thumb area.
I will be tuning in to the Reese game and listening to Ubly on WLEW.
Can't get much better than that two games on the same night.

P.S. I for one love their theory on covering games.

Eddie Fury said...

Polls are not accurate as those who would vote on what game to cover will be based on someone coming back to click and click and click again from whatever school they are from. And by the way the reese games had a combined live listener total of over 500 live listeners, that is just from the blog, not counting the website or the ez streams stats and not counting the the replay of the archived game, i can send you the numbers if you'd like. So yes, the folks in Reese & St.Charles do pay attention to this site and are pleased that we will be covering their game. Millington was what I was worried about...but those folks came through for us...about over 550 live blog listeners...again...not counting the website, ez stream stats or replays of the game.
I also do not think it is a waste of resources. The parents, coaches, athletes, schools and the USA, the folks from around the world, the soldiers we got listening over in the desert and in Europe sure as heck don't think it is a waste either. It is the least I can for my fellow military being a former Marine myself. Thanks for the criticism though...and thanks for visiting the blog. I got you to look at it and hopefully listening to it. Come back anytime.

Paul P. - I have to disagree with your comment about BC coaching. I think Banks and his team have done a great job. There are some really great athletes on the team who brought different skills to the game and for you to say that he benched the "best" athlete on the team is a slap in the face to all those great athletes who played their hearts out and gave 100% at every game. The coach had his reasons for playing certain kids and not playing others. I think you should do your research instead of bad mouthing the coach.

Chiuk Czlek said...

Kudos Eddie,

I like the way your covering the Thumb. The radio stations are limited due to prior commitments to advertisers and mainly local county priorities. Your covering the whole area and have brought nothing but quality games from the greater Thumb area...ie the St Clair, Saginaw and Bay county fringe. Keep up the good work!

500 plus listeners...that's darn good and will only get better.

Paul, i believe that you need to look at the whole picture and see just how good the BC team did this year. As a player i know just how much coach banks has put into this program and how he coaches us and the new things that he has brought to this now winning program. He took a team from 2-7 to 7-2... sounds pretty successful to me. There are many players on our team that contributed to the success of the season... this includes every back, offensive linemen, defensive linemen, corner, saftey, and even all of the practice players on the team. I think that the teams "best" athlete on the team needs to open his eyes and see that if it werent for all the other players on the team he wouldnt be able to even play and that it is because of Coach Banks the the town of Brown City is finally backing the football program again....

Anonymous BC posters,

Scott Best gets hammered for taking a 2-7 team to 7-2 by a guy claiming to be Paul petterson.

I wonder...could P.P. really be some disgruntled person that was giving walking papers last year?

Anon #9 excellent post. Certainly clears the air IMHO.

haha yeah Peterson better check again because if the best athlete was sitting it must have not been the best athlete on that all around good football team including the BETTER BACKS

Anonymous said...

PAUL PETERSON you are an idiot and need a reality check if you think our so called "BEST BACK" being on the side like is why we lost. our so called "BEST BACK" was one of the biggest complainers/cry baby on the team. and our so called "BEST BACK" ran the ball like a PUSSY!! and its funny how you can comment on banks coaching when you are a RA/TARD. like some commented before me on your B.S you need to do your research before you bad mouth some one well i did my research i spent 3months with your son LOL i mean our "BEST BACK" and if he was our "BEST BACK" then running back #5 is 6'6" LOL hahah

BROWN CITY TEAMMATE

Paul Peterson said...

Part one
Reading comprehension used to be a requisite of high school graduation, sadly most of the posts responding to mine are lacking for they failed to gather the facts or ignored them. Before I start let me say that my son has no knowledge of these posts, second he has played sports with the same group of people for years, people he gladly calls friends, those friends have always been welcome at his home. In all the years he has played and in all the different sports I have never once heard him blame another teammate, nor complain about a teammate. Yes, he has complained about the coaches. Let’s leave the small town sports politics for another post. My son’s worst critic is me. These days he tells me very little, he has learned, I have not. I am very proud that he has the courage to speak up for himself and his teammates who all too frequently agree with him but refuse to stand up for themselves.

Lets talk comprehension, then facts. Number one I gave all the credit to the team in both posts, perhaps some failed to see that. As for best athlete, if anyone in Brown City can compete with him in speed, strength and endurance, step up or shut up. It takes all of these not one or two. Funny thing about total yardage statistics, you need to have the ball and you need blockers. I wonder how others would feel when they were given the ball only 25% but played 33%? I watched as he and others (read the words for I acknowledge others) gained yardage and critical first downs but he was seldom chosen to run the plays for the touchdown while that honor was freely distributed among others including under classmen. One game in particular stands out, the coach allowed the same individual to run three out of four downs on the five-yard line so they could get the score. This coach couldn’t defend against any passing team to save himself. Note the Deckerville game 4th quarter where they ran the entire length of the field. There were two fine pictures in the Trib. showing Stewart sacking the quarterback that ended the drive, reminiscent of the USA game where that quarterback left the game after the hit. Did he act alone; no way (read the words) did he stand out, yes. Lets get to the “best back” issue. Again I never said he was the best back, I said best athlete, can you read? His best friends are the other two backs and he has never spoken ill of them. The FACT is, during the Sandusky game he was the only back including the fullbacks to gain any yardage. In fact he got all the points except for one. During the forth quarter BC had the ball on the twenty with just under 6 min to go down by 3 points. First down, one yard, second down Stewart gains five yards. Does the coach let him run again in light of his performance? Did he decide to let him run 3 out four downs as he did the underclassmen in another game? No. He sends the other two backs straight up the middle for no yardage. Game Over. What do you say to that, big mouths? Next comes Ubly, Stewart rarely gets the ball; all the other backs get ample opportunities with no results. The coach chooses to pass the ball with arguably the worst passing quarterback BC has ever had (excellent runner, again try reading and comprehending), NINE times in a row with two interceptions! What defensive back shut down Marlete’s golden receiver? The same receiver who beat Sandusky with 500 yards? Shut him down, period. Next come the senior game where he sat on the sidelines while underclassmen played in his stead. Did anyone speak up? What would you do next year if the same happens to you? Didn’t he speak up for the Team in practice only to take the wrath of the coach on himself?

Paul Peterson said...

Part two
Finally the playoff game. Stewart plays defense only with the exception of two downs. Let me digress (big word) the plays he ran to the right never had blockers, ever. When #5 got the ball, he blocked for him. As for the pitch outs, the BC quarterback is slow and 9 0ut of ten times the ball is high and behind the runner. In the playoff game, three defensemen were on him in the backfield! Where were the blockers? The other play the pitch was as usual and the defensemen’s helmet hit the ball as it reached his hands. In both plays the coach blamed him verbally on the sideline. You were there, how did the other super backs do? They got squat just like Sandusky and Ubly.

Here is the gist of the entire post, Scott Banks just wanted to reach the playoffs, and he didn’t expect to win. If he did he would have pulled #5 off the corner where he was obviously miss-matched and moved the taller middle line backer over, and he would have played the back that kept them in the Sandusky game. Genesee followed #5 around the field for Christ-sake. Cry all you want, call names if it makes you feel better. The game was the coach’s childish payback to Stewart at the expense of the team but you people are too ignorant or jealous to see that. In the huddle after the game he had the audacity to say to suggest to the team that they would look back and tell their kids. Good thing Stewart held me back.

As for research, apparently none of you will be going to college, if so perhaps you need to work at that. Scott Banks has repeatedly stuck his foot in his mouth while patting himself on the back. Case in point is the Trib. quote just before the playoff where he says he has “…been coaching three years and never had a loosing season…” 2 in JV, no mention about the squads other than #16, #5 “small but tough” and #2. Kevin did the heavy lift this season plain and simple. It’s all about the future for Banks and if you want to buy that crap go for it. Good luck BC. You’ll need it.

As for the posters, those on the team who talk that way about a teammate don’t belong on any team. Posting anonymous is cowardly BC teammate, you really need to voice this to Stewart, I’m quite sure he would like to know who you are.

Paul – I do understand what you are staying. You think that your son was the best athlete on the team and that if he would have gotten more playing time in the games you mentioned, you feel we would have won those games. That’s basically what you’re saying, right? You know, every parent thinks their son is the best. But to say that in a public forum where your son’s teammates can see that you think your son is better than they are is not a good thing to do. I can see why some of them are a little ticked off. Also, since you obviously know more about coaching than the whole varsity football coaching squad from your view on the sidelines, maybe you should consider coaching? Instead of criticizing the coach and players, you would be able to participate at the practices and games and see exactly how hard being a coach really is. I personally don’t know any coaches who are perfect and there are always going to be mistakes made and plays you wish you would have done differently. Why dwell on it? All I know is, BC coaching is 100% better than last year, and I’m sure they will get better each year as they gain more experience. I think the kids who gave their all this year will look back with no regrets and be proud that they were a part of this team. By the way, I am NOT a coach, only a parent who is proud of her son and the team for the effort they put into this season.

well first off i am 10times stronger have good endurance and am actually very quick to begin he is hurt ALL THE time maybe your son shoulda being the quarterback too if trenton was sooooo terrible and also he would get yelled at practice/games he wouldnt 1.hide the ball 2.run hard. 3 wouldnt run the right hole so the facts are right infront of you and u say all the time he put in well a little quote for you "YOU GET OUT OF IT WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT" but enough of the drama it is basketball season cant wait to hear your comments about the team :)

My apologies, to the entire Brown City team. There can be no doubt to the depth of talent, I thought I made that clear numerous times. The post is meant to be critical of Banks, and I still believe it that criticism. I was content to let it go until I read last post. I took care not to mention anyone outside of Banks. My opinion is just that and I’m free to express it, so are you. Josh, there can be no doubt regarding your abilities. Most of the senior class has been lifting weights for years and it shows. I wish you and the team well in Basketball; you have the best coach in the district, perhaps wider. Trenton, the same can be said of your abilities; you have been moved up to Varsity in every sport you play and for very good reasons. If you took anything away hurtful, I’m sorry. I have always felt Kevin would have been better suited at quarterback mainly due to his arm. Outside of that, you did and will continue to do a fantastic job. Cory, nobody can take away the years of tremendous effort in everything you do. You are tireless, every season; in every sport you are a standout. The same can be said for the entire team especially the huge talent coming up next year. BC will be playoff bound again. As to the parents, I should have known better than to take the bait. My feelings of Banks is unchanged, the talent got him there. He took a moment in time away that cannot be undone and for that I have no respect for him. Let’s end it here and now. I eat crow, deservedly. All the best to all of you.

Just to put this one to rest - 829 listeners for the Reese/St. Charles Game. Our most yet. We could actually see a decline in the Ubly games because of market size - or an increase because they are now the "Thumb's Team". Hard to say, but we can express how much we appreciate those who listen!

Josh Moffit, we need to meet so we discuss the merit of each others argument.

Paul Peterson, as Josh Moffitt's mother, I believe that the harassing phone calls to my son by yourself are completely inappropriate and unacceptable as an adult you are entitled to an opinion as well as Josh is however for you to call and threaten a High School senior because he BELIEVES in his coach, is immature and needs to stop. Due to the nature of your last phone call it would be in your best interest to have no further contact with my child. Have you thought about the impact that this is having on your child as well??
